yoshiokubo 20th Anniversary Limited T-shirt (RUSSELL MAURICE version)

This T-shirt features the cover art from a special book compiled to commemorate yoshiokubo's 20th anniversary.
The eye-catching designs were commissioned from five up-and-coming artists from around the world, selected by the editorial team of THE NEW ORDER magazine, a fashion culture magazine that covers a wide range of cultures from a unique perspective.

Artist introduction: RUSSELL MAURICE
A British artist based in Japan. In addition to his artwork, he also designs the apparel brand "Gasius."

Regarding the concept of this piece, RUSSELL MAURICE explained, "My work always follows a certain kind of 'abstract narrative.' This time, I used the myth of the Green Knight as the starting point for the design. The Green Knight comes from a 14th century Welsh poem about King Arthur. As such, he is a mysterious character often used to embody the supernatural or spiritual other world, and is also associated with the idea of ​​the devil (historically sometimes considered green), savage humans, and natural human desires."
The production process is also interesting, with Russell Maurice saying, "This time, I used the same analog techniques as cel animation frames, which have fallen into little use since being replaced by computer animation. I sketched the original artwork to scale and traced it onto a clear plastic sheet using enamel ink. I then colored it by filling in the solid areas with gouache to create a flat color, and then placed the cel on top of a background and photographed it to complete the piece."
