It's not just about the rainy season, but I'm also talking about a new poncho.

I think it was last week (June 6th) that the rainy season was declared in Tokyo. Hello, this is Kubo.

Actually, I recently made a poncho, so I'd like to talk about what I paid attention to and how I made it.

When you think of a poncho, you probably imagine a pullover-like garment worn by students or people who use two-wheelers for work. Of course, what I made is a poncho, so that's what I thought, but I tried to make it with the theme of minimizing the amount of stitching. In the end, it has a simple, modern feel and is very well made.

I think it was the 2011-12 Fall/Winter collection, but there was a season where I made nothing but ponchos. In fact, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred in the spring of that year, so I couldn't hold a show that season. But I continued to create pieces, and I especially focused on ponchos. So, this time. The fabric is just a rectangular piece. Fold it in half, make a hole in the middle for the neck, and keep the stitching to a minimum. Don't sew the sides either. Once you put the neck in, the fabric just falls along the body.

We racked our brains to think about how we could make it as easy and simple as possible, yet still look cool. The length of the sleeves of a poncho is equal to the overall length, so we paid particular attention to the length to make it look balanced. So, although we say it's for the rainy season, we'd like people to wear it all year round.

Speaking of cool, the hood is great. When you put the hood on and fasten a simple button, it pretty much seals around your neck, keeping water out, and by adding darts to the fabric, we were able to create a brim on the front. We cleverly placed the darts so that the hood doesn't get saggy even when not wearing it, and we designed it to have a defined shape.

The fabric is made by a Nagoya-based company called Masuda, and has a special three-layer structure. It's nylon, but it's breathable, allowing air to escape and preventing stuffiness.

It will only be available in black and will only be sold online. It doesn't feel like the rainy season yet, but be sure to buy it before the rainy days arrive. See you next time.
