Recently, we held a campaign we had never done before, in which we asked participants to take in a piece of yoshiokubo clothing that they had always loved but hadn't worn much recently and was now sitting in their closet, and remake it into a one-of-a-kind piece of clothing. Once again, we would like to thank everyone for their applications.

As a condition for application, we asked applicants to write in the message section about their feelings about the clothes they would be willing to remake, so I carefully read through each one.
They were all long, and I was able to discover and reflect on things like, "Oh, so that's how they chose it," "So that's the situation they wore it in," and "I remember thinking about this outfit when it was designed," and I was very grateful. Above all, I was touched by the number of people who said, "Even though I don't wear it as often anymore, I still treasured it and didn't throw it away."
This is the ultimate joy of being a designer.
For those who unfortunately weren't able to wear it this time, please look forward to the next time, and I hope you will take this opportunity to wear it again since you took the time to pull it out of your closet.
Now, let me tell you about the outfit that I decided to remake this time.
The message attached read, "About 20 years ago, I happened to see a promotional video and was fascinated by the model in it, so I thought, 'I want to become an adult with that kind of sex appeal,' and started buying Yoshiokubo's clothes."
Twenty years ago was when I first presented my collection as yoshiokubo. I was still unknown, so I sent lookbooks and DVDs with original short movies burned into them to buyers and magazines, and made a strong appeal to them in order to get their attention.
The coat that was submitted this time was the one that was announced then, and it was such a nostalgic item that even I thought, "There are people who still have this!" I was shocked, thinking, "Wow, they brought this!"
The reason is that I only have a few of the clothes that were presented at that time, and one of the clothes that was submitted is one that even I don't own.
I had this precious item sent to my office, and when I looked at the overall design, there were parts that made me think, "Oh yeah, that's it!", and when a staff member asked me about the collar design, I remembered for the first time, "Oh, that's it!", and it was like meeting an old friend, and I felt a sense of nostalgia, thinking, "It's been a while! How have you been?"
On the other hand, I also noticed some designs that made me think, "This kind of changeover is common now, both in the past and present," and "If it were to happen now, the strap here could be a little wider," giving me a good opportunity to objectively look at the differences and similarities between my past and present self.
When remaking clothes that have been worn for years, I was concerned about the condition of the clothes. If the fabric is damaged and brittle, it will be difficult to repair, the stitches will need to be precise and fine to retain the original shape, and if the thread count and fabric are not compatible or the tension of the thread is not good, the clothes will not last long...
In that sense, I thought there wouldn't be any problems because yoshiokubo's clothes are made with a great deal of attention to quality, but when I actually saw the actual clothes, I was able to be convinced that "Ah, this won't be a problem," and that was a great benefit for me.
If not compromising on the quality of the small details is ultimately one of the reasons why the clothes I make are not just my own personal preference, but are ones that people can continue to wear with love for a long time, then I feel that what I have been doing up until now has not been a mistake.
Now, regarding the items we have received this time, we plan to ask for your requests, such as "what you would like us to keep," but basically we will leave everything to you and remake it. We hope to be able to report on the progress here in the future, so please look forward to it.
Yoshiokubo's official YouTube channel, "Problem Solving Lab.", will be introducing the items from the winner, moto.ki. Please take a look.
