The moment I felt like I had touched God while making clothes

It's been a while since the Spring/Summer 2024 collection "Kondaku - Layered, swaying, refreshing clothing" began to be sold in the online shop. This season's collection makes full use of tulle, cutting, and design, but the lace items seem to have received the most attention. So, in this blog, I'd like to talk about the lace that men can wear stylishly, starting with the " GEOMETRIC S/S SHIRTS ."

The "GEOMETRIC S/S SHIRTS" are open-collar shirts featuring dot and flower motif lace, and I imagine many people find it unusual to see men's clothing that makes extensive use of lace like this. The reason for this is probably that lace is difficult for men to style and is difficult to find the right combination for.

However, yoshiokubo has been using lace material for quite some time. We first tried using it in the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, which was over 10 years ago. One of my favorite photos is from when we presented our collection in Paris, so please take a look at it first. This all lace top!
What we want you to pay particular attention to is the scalloped hem, the intricate and delicate design that cannot be achieved by machine weaving is breathtaking. The vivid color of fluorescent yellow is used on such high quality fabric. These days, we are fearless and have come up with a very bold finish.

When I came up with this idea, it may sound a bit exaggerated, but I still remember feeling like I had "touched God!" and I will never forget the elation I felt at the time. At the time, I had never seen men's clothing made with lace, and it became a garment that I could be proud of, saying, "No one has done anything like this! And no one has ever done anything of this quality!"

The lace used on this occasion was from Solstice, a long-established company founded in 1879 and said to be the best in the world when it comes to lace making. Even today, top fashion houses around the world use this lace, and it was even used in the wedding dress worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales, so you can see how highly regarded it is.

The first time I came into contact with lace was when I was training at a couture shop in New York. Designer Robert Dence told me, "Yoshio, find this kind of fabric for me," and I was running around fabric stores in NYC. Without this experience, I might not have even known that such high-quality lace existed. And I certainly wouldn't have even thought that "men can wear lace well, too."

Over time, the GEOMETRIC S/S SHIRTS have evolved from a piece of clothing with such sentimental value to a piece that can be incorporated into everyday outfits, giving off a nostalgic, tropical vibe and allowing you to relax and enjoy wearing it. The special order "GEOMETRIC S/S SHIRTS" items are available for sale at Takashimaya's men's select shop "CS case study" and GQ JAPAN's official online select shop "GQ SHOP." To coincide with this, I had the opportunity to speak in detail about the special order items with Mr. Ujiie and Mr. Iwasa from Takashimaya, Mr. Katayama and Mr. Otsubo from GQ SHOP, and myself. Please take a look.
