The charm of Spring/Summer 2024 items seen from behind the scenes, Vol. 1

Now that the weather has warmed up, it's time to put away your winter clothes and start preparing for spring and summer. This time, we focused on items from the 2024 Spring/Summer collection that you can enjoy just by wearing one piece, and interviewed the yoshiokubo planning staff about their appeal and key points.

-What exactly are planning staff?
In our case, my job is to commercialize the ideas of our designers. For example, in addition to planning new products and collections, I also decide on the product lineup, design, specifications, and pricing for each product.

-What item would you like to introduce?
ORGANDY TRUCKER JACKET

-Why did you choose this shirt jacket?
It was a very difficult piece to sew. -About seam allowances
There are various ways to finish the edges when sewing together clothes, but the ORGANDY TRUCKER JACKET is finished with a "flat felled seam" that is commonly used for shirts. This gives it a neat look without the seam being visible on the outside.

The reason I chose to finish it this way is because this jacket is made of a sheer organza material, and I wanted it to look neat. Aside from the design, the folded seam has the advantage of being comfortable against the skin and less likely to fray, making it more durable. The overlapping seam also adds a bit of thickness, creating a raised detail that can be used as an accent.

All seams, including the side seams and chest pockets, are finished with this folded seam, which makes the manufacturing process complicated... and the sewing factory was a little hesitant to do it. Haha, I hope you'll take a look at this detail when you take off this shirt jacket and hold it in your hand or drape it over your shoulders.

-About the button
When attaching buttons to the placket, they are usually sewn on one by one, but this shirt jacket is not.The buttons are attached using a method called 'parachute buttons', which are two parallel, narrow holes through which tape is threaded and then hammered onto the base fabric.

This button design is seen in military wear and is designed to give the buttons strength so they don't come off when pulled. This ORGANDY TRUCKER JACKET is inspired by the style of workwear from the 1950s and 1960s, so we deliberately chose this button design.

Of course, from a design perspective, it also serves as an accent. -About the overall design
This shirt uses elements such as seam allowances and buttons that prioritize durability, but at first glance the design doesn't give that impression. It uses a light organza material that's perfect for spring and summer, while incorporating highly practical elements in the details, and I think the contrast between these two is exquisite. I hope people will enjoy wearing it while feeling a sense of "discomfort."

This concludes our introduction to the ORGANDY TRUCKER JACKET.
